Your private guide will greet you at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and transport you to your accommodation in Arusha for a good night's rest following a long journey.
Overnight: Arumeru River Lodge or similar (bed & breakfast)
-
Wake to magnificent views of Mt. Kilimanjaro Africa's tallest peak and the world's tallest free-standing mountain. Head west from Arusha after breakfast, viewing local attractions along the way, including an animal sanctuary and Maasai cultural museum. After arrival to your lodging, receive cultural and service project orientation from local Red Sweater Project staff members. Enjoy a traditional African sundowner as you experience your first sunset over the Great Rift Valley escarpment.
Overnight: Manyara's Secret Lodge or similar (full board)
-
Spend your days interacting with students, staff and community members at the Mungere School, a successful education development project in Mungere Village, a tribal community. Participate in a volunteer service project (optional), join in student athletics and activities, hike to nearby cascading waterfalls, or contribute in the classroom. Tour the village with students as your trilingual hosts, dance at a tribal ceremony or visit the weekly village market, all while taking in the sights, smells and sounds of local life.
Overnights: Manyara's Secret Lodge or similar (full board)
-
Embark on your African safari adventure after breakfast by heading into Lake Manyara National Park where, located directly at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment, where the scenery is as stunning as the exotic wildlife. In addition to the park’s famous tree-climbing lions, plentiful herds of elephants, water buffalo, giraffe, zebra, and the mysterious leopard are found around this lake, covering 89 square miles. With over 10,000 in number, Tanzania boasts more bird species than any other country in Africa, including flamingos, pelicans, vultures and various cranes.
Overnight: Manyara's Secret Lodge or similar (full board)
-
After breakfast, enjoy your second day of wildlife viewing by entering the Ngorongoro Crater, a geological marvel boasting several vegetation zones from lakes to forest to savannah. A UNESCO World Heritage site, it is home to both semi-nomadic Maasai pastoralists and 30,000 animals, who have coexisted for centuries despite the crater's tiny size only 10 miles in diameter.
Overnight: Manyara's Secret Lodge or similar (full board)
-
After breakfast, embark on a self-guided hike or bike through the local banana fields. Spend time perusing the local markets or souvenir shopping, and saying goodbye to your new Tanzanian friends before private transport returns you to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your evening departure.
